The Islamic tradition, like many other religions, is rich in wisdom about our relationship with the environment. The Quranic verses tell us that there is a meaning and purpose behind God's creation and therefore call on people to contemplate the wonder of creation, build our inner and outer selves through nature, witness the sanctity of the natural world and maintain the balance that has been set, and much more. Some estimate that as many as 750 verses in the Quran are related to nature. Many more books on this subject have been distributed throughout history through the sayings of the prophets and spiritual sages.
The goal of the Green Scripture Project is to capture, organize and encourage reflection on scripture and wisdom from the Islamic tradition regarding the environment. We've selected six key aspects of nature to make the topics more comprehensive and easier to read.
