Every Islamic municipality is unique, and based on that knowledge we have we did not try to write an approach that every municipality would have to follow. You know together with others what suits you best mosque. This manual is therefore a showcase full of possibilities for every mosque that works with Green Muslims. Choose from there the steps that suit your mosque, your community, which you and give your people energy and inspiration.

In the first part we tell you more about how the promotion works and how to turn your mosque into a Green Mosque. There are many reasons to participate and get started with the municipality together with the topic.

We have divided the actual greening into themes that are covered in the second part of this manual. It gives a more specific picture of the areas for which mosques still have a lot profit can be made.

As a Green Mosque, you are of course free to participate (also) to actions and campaigns of other (religious) organizations.

About Green Mosques:

Sustainability is a frequently heard concept– also in the mosque. From sales table to fair trade products to a firm policy about how sustainable the mosque wants to be.

In other mosques the emphasis is on wonder about Creation and care for nature. Mosques look after people who are suffering under the effects of poverty and injustice. Besides praying and giving money

for philosophical projects, there is a growing demand for doing more than Which. Or rather, do more than that.

With Green Mosques we want as Green Muslims encourage mosques to be more sustainable and become greener and that those mosques from beginner to sustainable expert find and encourage each other.

The action focuses on all mosques and faith communities that are actively involved in the want to get started with sustainability, social justice and greening the own community.

Green in the Quran:

In the Quran the word turns green almost always used in relation to the agricultural crops that people eat and life. And the lack of green means in the Islamic context is often the lack of hope, fair relations and peace. In a world that is increasingly deal with climate change, exploitation and injustice, Green Mosques give a counter voice. And that's a hopeful sound for the world and for the mosque!

Do you want to join? Then we ask you to express your intention as a mosque speak to become greener. 

You are accountable for that promise. Your intention becomes clear when you do five things:

1. Sign up at Green-Muslims.org,
2. Tell us your plan. Share with us which green steps you have as a faith community undertaken and what green plans you have. We also read. please give a short description about who you are.
3. Receive the sign. We will contact you personally, post your information on the website and send the Green Mosque sign, so that you can be hung in a nice visible place in or around the building.
4. Exchange experiences. The faith communities that have signed up to the Green Muslims exchange experiences through to ask each other for advice or to share information.
5. Take your steps. Via the toolkit on our website Green-Muslims.org. You can choose the next sustainable step from the many ideas and advice that being given. Keep the information about the green steps you keep up to date by sending an update via an annual request.

Yes, Green Muslims is a quality mark, And a collaboration with mosques taking a different path and jointly shape a sustainable, fair and just environment. Every mosque that participates deserves automatically entitled 'We are Green'. 

Green Muslims also come every year check the status of the progress of the intended steps. And we keep our members informed about national and regional activities or meetings, and we send a quarterly newsletter.

The purpose of the newsletter is a additional information and inspiration channel offer, both for you and for us. Like this together we develop the knowledge and the skills we need to make our mosques greener.
